About J.D. Power and Associates
Founded in 1968, JD Power and Associates is a global marketing information services
firm that offers consumer ratings on products and services ranging from automobiles
to restaurants and is a part of the Information and Media Services Group of McGraw-Hill.
J.D. Power and Associates is probably best known for administering car customer
satisfaction tests. The J.D. Power automobile survey in Britain is an independent survey conducted on
all automobiles, which are two years of age at the time of publication and ratings
and comments are from the public who have purchased the automobile new and has owned
it for two years. Satisfaction is rated on several criteria. The Great Britain
J.D. Power and Associates then add up the several thousand marks obtained in each
area for every automobile to obtain an overall score. This process has made it
a renowned source of influence amongst British motorists. However, there are critics of J.D. Power who point out that the company sells its
services and is a profit driven organization. Therefore, its findings might be
relatively biased when compared to a not-for-profit organization such as Consumer
Reports.
